Bible story in your mother tongue . . .

Friends,
I hope you are doing well this summer. Here is something that might bless you as you hear the Bible stories in your own mother tongue. The Jesus Film, a primary evangelistic tool used by Campus Crusade For Christ, has been translated into numerous languages. It is based on the life of Jesus according to Luke's Gospel. Please find it here:

Enjoy these stories with the refreshment of your own mother tongue (or father tongue) . . .

About Dr. Jim Ault

Dr. Jim Ault. He is a sociologist and documentary filmmaker whose father was United Methodist pastor, then bishop heading its General Board of Global Ministries. Jim began his career as a student of African society and politics, living and doing research on two occasions in Zambia, before turning his studies to American politics and making his first film "Life in a Fundamentalist Baptist Church" (a national prime-time special on PBS in 1987).  He is just completing a two-part series on African Christianity shot in Ghana and Zimbabwe and a proposal to Oxford UP for a book that will have links to pieces of the more than 300 hours of video shot for that project embedded in its text.

Also, you can get tastes of the African Christianity films at vimeo.com/channels/57182, and there will be more at his web site.

March Fellowship

Friends,
I have the great pleasure of welcoming into our midst Dr. James Ault. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Cordelias (within the seminary Cafeteria), the African Fellowship will meet Dr. Jim Ault. He is a sociologist and the son of Methodist Bishop and missionary to Africa. Jim was in Africa with his parents and returned on his own. You will find him quite interesting and his experience beneficial - an etic (i.e. outsider's) perspective to ministry back home. So, please plan to attend this unusually important meeting.  Though my original idea in inviting him was to meet the African Fellowship (you all are very important), Jim will spend time with the Beeson students, the ESJ students, eat with Dr. and Mrs. Tennent as well as preach in the chapel on Thursday. He will additionally screen one of his African based Christian movies on the afternoon of Wednesday. Do take advantage of his visit.

Note also that this will be my final meeting as President of the Asbury Seminary African Fellowship here in Wilmore. Next month's meeting, April 15 will be our official handover when we will welcome the Rev. David Wilson Ntogohnya as President and the Rev. Raymond Muniss as General Secretary to our fellowship. Please be praying for our new leaders. It is yet uncertain about the Treasurer.

Please bring a dish and a drink as this will be a potluck

Elections Results

Dear All:

Christian greetings and peace.

The African Fellowship met on Friday, February 18 2011 for two agendas:
[1]  to fellowship and
[2] to choose the new Fellowship leaders for the 2011/2012 academic year.

The environment was conducive for fellowship and interactions and we had variety of food and time to catch up and share recent experiences and merriments for the Christmas holidays. From the look of things it is like everybody had some travels to make either back to our mother land, Africa or across the US. It was a great time. Children and young adults were released to go and do their business as the main agenda of the day was rolled out.

The day's Returning Officer, Matthew called the meeting in order and did some exhortation before the elections could begin. The verbatim version of the constitution was unfolded and each member present ascended to the same. The Returning officer ensured that from the word go, the electorate understood every step of the electioneering process. Since these were going to be a secret ballot exercise, the ballot boxes were ensured to be free and empty. This is confirmed. Proposals to elect the President of the fellowship were called. Members proposed names of those present as well those absent pegged on their consent. After a series of competitive proposals and secondment, the following were elected to lead and guide our African Fellowship:
1] President: Rev'd David Ntogonya
2] Secretary: Rev'd Raymond Muniss
3] Treasurer: Mrs. Esther Achi [will confirm].
Since Matthew had to leave to attend to other matters, I was asked to conclude the elections. The whole election process was a wonderful exercise filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Congratulations to our new leaders and thank you to the outgoing leadership. The handing over exercise will be in April 2011. When all is said and done, it is my humble submission that the African Fellowship is looked upon in this Institution for inspiration and motivation and so I appeal to all of us to avail ourselves to live to the expectations of many around us. Your guess is as good as mine that it has been said over and over again, that the Church is growing greatly in Africa and rightly so and so we need to demonstrate this blessing of the Lord. Please accept this simple and summary report for this "hot seat" of the Returning Officer! It is one thing to elect leaders into office and it is another to surround them with support.

God bless us all and let us share Acts 17:28 - ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’[a] As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.

Faithfully

Rev'd Paul Korir

Elections - Change of Venue

Please note the change of venue: for this particular Friday we will meet in the Royal Auditorium and not in Cordelia.
Everything else remains constant.
